Yesterday spent the day around Hobart centre, checked out the museum again, then Janet gave us a lift back to the airport.

Today we used Sheila and Martins cycles and had a good look around Redcliffe.

Mt Wellington

Hi all. As you can see we made it to the top of Mount Wellington and the icy cold wind and snow. Views over the bays were stunning so it was worth it. Rock formations like a cathedral organ pipes and we saw 2 eagles, one was white- not sure of type yet will have to check books. Has warmed up here - 13 degrees! Tomorrow is our last day in Hobart and then we return to sunny Brisbane for a bush weekend! All go. Tonight we have a touch of home as we are going to see Hale and Pace at the Theatre Royal-culture!

Hastings Cave`

Visited Hastings caves created by underground river and seepage of rain throught the rainforest-that's the technical bit. Very impressive formations. Near by were some thermal springs creating an open air swimming pool-took cossies but day didn't fancy coming out of 28 degrees into 12 degree air temp! He wanted a 3 hour walk instead ( no change there) but we were beaten back by swamp tigers! (excessive rain fall really) Yellow roads are in fact dirt tracks here into logging territory-hence the lovely clean car! Dave said "Oh **** Doc will kill me" Fortunately a pint or two might take off the pressure. Still cold! Tomorrow has got to be Mount Wellington! There's snow on top at the moment!

Port Arthur

Snow on Mt Wellington this morning! Day cleared blue skies. but cold! Went to
Port Arthur penal colony really interesting! Idyllic setting for a not so idyllic past! Coastal drive beautiful. Doc took us past his houses by the coast. Carlton Beach a surfers paradise, next to a much calmer child friendly beach. Dave is going to be driving Doc's car tomorrow as he goes back to work so we will be on our own. Hoping to do tree walk, caves and vineyard!

Had an action packed day - did a walk to Russel Falls, dramatic waterfall- the drop as you can see is as high as the tree canopy. It was cold and wet, but very enjoyable; lots of shy wallabies in the bush, quite near to the paths. Lunch-quick cup of tea back home and another epic steep walk to Nelson's point overlooking the bay-reminds me of Scotland. Popped around to neighbour's for a chat and drink-find our accent amusing! Tomorrow Doc is taking us to Port Arthur for a bit of convict history.

Salamanca

Very big craft market down on Hobart port, lots of sculptures made from Tassie wood. All stall holders were holding onto their stalls, it was so gusty. Followed by fab fish lunch at Mure's, a walk around the botanical gardens and an amazing look at Hobart from Stuart mount- still getting along as you can see! Dave "bought" some honey! Hoping to get to top of Mount Wellington - -1 last night! Cairns is going to seem like a sauna! T.T.F.N

Walked down to docks. Took a catamaran tour of the river coast and harbour around Hobart and beyond. Cool, but sunny. Saw large white chested sea eagle swoop for fish. Interesting trip, very good lunch of local produce eg oyster, pate, chutney. Out tonight-mexican
